RSC Week #6 - RED Blocks and BOM from Grandma's Red Needle

Another week has passed and it's time for RSC - Rainbow Scrap Challenge - update.

My intention was not to participate in any BOM or QAL this year, because I have way too many UFOs that have to be finished.
Did I stick to that? Nope! I couldn't resist Sherri McConnel's 'A Quilting Life' BOM 2024. A new block is posted first Monday of each month. I'm doing the blocks in scrappy RSC colors and here is the January block in green. The blocks come in two sizes; 8" and 16". I'm doing the 16" (more scraps ...

From Green to Red - RSC February Color from Grandma's Red Needle

 HAPPY SCRAPPY FEBRUARY!
How did it become February already? I'm sure you've noticed; February has 29 days - leap year - more time for quilting!

February means a new RSC (Rainbow Scrap Challenge) color, and RED is chosen by Angela at soscrappy.blogspot.com

Since February 1 was midweek, we got some extra days playing with GREEN (RSC January color)
It has been a long time since I participated in a BOM (Block-Of-the-Month. I did not intend participating in any this year either, but then I came across Sherri McConnel's A Quilting Life BOM 2024. A new block is ...

RSC Week #4 - Last of the Greens from Grandma's Red Needle

It has been another wet week due to cyclone 'Candice'. Last week it was 'Belal'. 'Candice' was nothing compared to 'Belal'. It kept us in suspense for three days, looping over the island before it decided to accelerate and leave.
Perfect days staying inside playing with RSC green fabric.

Except for the Split-9 blocks I made last week, I've made some new blocks where I can use some of the 2" squares that have multiplied over the years!

I've made 4 Scrap Jar blocks

The 16-patches center is all from my 2" cut squares. The spikes and background ...

Home Made Holiday Gifts from Made By Marney

Every year I create home made gifts for my pickleball crew. There are 8 of us and we play 3 times a week, so we have gotten very close. I want this gift to be pickleball related, but also practical. This year, I used some adorable novelty fabric (Elizabeth Studios Pickleball Paddles on White 683 Fabric) to sew SWEAT RAGS. I found my fabric at a local quilt shop, MY FAVORITE QUILT SHOP, in Green Bay, WI.

I simply purchased soft terry washcloths, ripped open any side seams…

tucked the pickleball fabric under the opened seam…

and sewed the seam ...

Farmhouse Animals with Flowers from Made By Marney

My newest table runner has 4 adorable paper pieced farm animals wearing flower wreaths.

My FARMHOUSE TABLE RUNNER pattern has all 4 animals included and the directions to make the extra long farmhouse ruffle. This table runner has no quilt batting. Instead I used fusible T-shirt interfacing to keep the table runner nice and thin and flexible.

All of the block patterns are also sold separately. BUNNY WITH FLOWERS.

HORSE WITH FLOWERS
CAT WITH FLOWERS
PIG WITH FLOWERS

These blocks also make lovely pillows…

Although the pillow directions are not included in the pattern, they are available in my book ...

Which came first? from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

We had a great day at Thimble Quilts and Sewing in Lasalle, Ontario. There's always so much to show, and doesn't seem like enough time to show all the samples and explain all the techniques. The poor students who attended went home with their heads spinning from all the inspiration and information!

We had a great lunch chatting with the customers and a good look around the store. A few things came home with me. And I bought fabric - somewhat willy-nilly, which I haven't done in a long time.

However, I saw some gorgeous batiks and decided ...

RSC Week 37 - September is Aqua + RSC August was Yellow from Grandma's Red Needle

 Hello, dear readers and followers!
Days & weeks seem to keep me busy with other stuff than blogging. The last months have kept me busy making Advent Calendars for my Etsy shop. I've made some new calendars this year and some that sold out last year. I'm almost done! I was not going to make any fall items this year, but ended up making some small items.

In between making Advent Calendars, I've kept up with the RSC, the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.
RSC color for September is Aqua. I knew I don't have more then a few ...

RSC Week 30 - End of the RED for July from Grandma's Red Needle

Hello everyone! Have you missed me? lol
I can't believe my previous blog post is dated beginning June! Where did those weeks go?! It was not my intention not to blog, it just happened without any particular reason.
July has kept me busy making Advent Calendars for my Etsy Shop. There are some new calendars this year and some that sold out last year. So far 36 (no, it's not a math mistake!) calendars are done, left to sew binding on some. The pockets can be a bit tedious, but it is mindless sewing and I do love ...

Ongoing and New Scrappy Project from Grandma's Red Needle

Do you have an ongoing project? ...Or a new scrappy project?
Those of you who have followed my blog for some years, know I cut scraps from 1.5" to 5" squares + 1.5" strips, selvages, and saving those odd triangles! I'm keeping up with 1.5" squares, doing pretty well with 2.5",  not so good with the other sizes, strips and selvages.

I spent some time during the weekend catching up on my ongoing scrappy 1.5" squares.

I make 36-patches and I have 9 blocks, I sew them together to 324-patches. It will be easier to ...

RSC Week 21 - End of the Orange Month from Grandma's Red Needle

Goodbye RSC ORANGE - Welcome DARK & BRIGHT BLUES for June!
I haven't gone through my blue colors for June, not sure what I have. I do have a lot of blues, but dark & bright?

Well, May and the color orange is nearing its end. I don't have a big variety of orange, just enough to make the blocks for the Swirling Star Quilt

The big block

...and the two small blocks

What to do with the remaining orange?
Do you remember the '70's, when orange & brown were hot colors? My first sewing machine, a Husqvarna, (not my photo ...

Sherlock and Dr Watson from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

OK -- so what has happened to the weather? It's like someone turned on the faucet, and the hot water heater is broken. It's cold and rainy! I see it's overcast again this morning, and it feels like minus 2! Thank goodness I didn't bother bringing my bike! Although the weather gets better as the week goes along!

So I'm making progress on the stuff that I brought. Perhaps slower than I would like, but some of this has a learning curve, and well, I'm learning. I'm OK with that. And a lot of ...

I have a special treat for you, so keep reading until the end. I went a little deep in thought for my block this month.
